Mobile phones could be banned from Orkney classrooms for most pupils under new plans being proposed by the islands council. For secondary pupils, it was found many felt safer with a mobile, particularly when travelling to and from school. Two thirds of secondary school families, and 85% of secondary school staff, said bullying is made more likely by the presence of personal devices. Within the first year, it states that school policies should be developed and implemented with the impact being monitored. It also states that schools will have looked at secure storage for pupils’ personal devices.
