The dispute between South Korea’s unification ministry and the U.N. Command (UNC) over access to the demilitarized zone (DMZ) ratcheted up this week, after the multinational command reaffirmed its unilateral authority over the border in a rare rebuke.
But experts told NK News that Seoul’s push for greater control is unlikely to succeed, while raising concern that it could damage ties with the U.S.-led military force and even play into North Korea’s hand.
