AVONDALE — The owners of Warlord restaurant are facing backlash from community members and industry workers for wanting to open a Humboldt Park spot — particularly as the main chef and co-owner has been charged with a felony.
The organizers, who work in the restaurant industry, also are urging neighbors to unfollow the social accounts for Warlord, Lords and the owners to “deplatform” Fleming, said lead organizer Raeghn Draper.
Draper, who lives in Garfield Park and often frequents Humboldt Park, said many Brown and Black residents live in the area and work in the industry, which makes the name for the new restaurant troubling considering its historical context ties to Humboldt Park.
