Lambeth Council’s Full Council meeting earlier this week was marked by a walk-out by Green councillors over Labour’s handling of a Gaza divestment motion backed by 5,000 petition signatures. Lambeth Council blocked scrutiny from the public and councillors through a series of unprecedented decisions and delays ahead of Wednesday’s full council, leading to a chaotic meeting. Motions and amendments remained unpublished until just three hours before the meeting, despite motions being received by the council over a month ago. Lambeth’s constitution states that motions should be published in a public register 19 days before the council meeting. Later, Green councillors walked out in protest over Labour’s refusal to divest from genocide.
