Abdelrahman Abdelkarim, 34, had arrived in the UK from Sudan in 2015 and originally moved to Birmingham before settling in Colchester in 2024.
The inquest heard Mr Abdelkarim lived in a house of multiple occupancy and had previously been convicted for carrying a knife, though it was not said when the offence took place.
The coroner said, however, Mr Abdelkarim was “clearly suffering trauma” and added it was not known “what might have been the final straw for him”.
Mrs Brown concluded Mr Abdelkarim intended to take his own life because of his history of mental health problems and low concentration of alcohol in his bloodstream at the time of his death.
She said: “I will therefore conclude Abdelrahman Abdelkarim from Colchester died on May 24, 2025 at Colchester North railway station due to a collision with a moving train.
