The Manoel Island: Post Għalina campaign has unveiled a community-led vision for Manoel Island and is urging the public to submit it as part of the Government’s ongoing public consultation. The vision document, available for download online, is the result of more than 200 hours of collective discussion held across a series of workshops involving over 70 participants, including members of the public, Gżira residents and experts. Last year, Manoel Island: Post Għalina—led by activists from Moviment Graffitti and Flimkien għal Ambjent Aħjar—mobilised more than 29,000 petition signatures calling for Manoel Island to be returned to the public as a national nature and heritage park. The proposed vision for this park is grounded in four core values: Free and Safe Access for All, Integration of Wellbeing and Health, Preservation of Cultural Memory, and Respect for Ecological Systems. Together, these principles envision the 30-hectare island as a refuge from noise and light pollution, free of vehicular traffic while ensuring safe access for everyone, including children and the elderly.
