Brighton and Hove City Council is launching a public consultation on proposals to introduce a single Smoke Control Area (SCA) covering the entire city, replacing the current five SCAs that only cover selected areas. Smoke Control Areas are legally designated zones where you cannot emit smoke from a chimney or buy an unauthorised fuel unless it’s for use in an exempt appliance. "A city-wide Smoke Control Area will help us to achieve those goals for the benefit of everyone in Brighton and Hove. "Clean Air Night is a fitting time to launch this consultation as it seeks to highlight the damaging impacts air pollution is having on our health. The council says that expanding smoke control measures is critical to reducing air pollution from the burning of coal, wood and waste.
