The Grace Eyre Foundation, based in Brighton, recently welcomed Siân Berry, MP for Brighton Pavilion, to discuss the barriers faced by those with learning disabilities and autism in the workplace. Nationally, just 4.8 per cent of people with a learning disability are in paid work, despite 60 per cent expressing a desire to work. Only one in three autistic adults are in paid work, and autistic people experience the largest pay gap among all disability groups. I hope to see legislators, employers and local authorities take note and make meaningful progress to help more adults with learning disabilities into employment." The goal is to highlight the value of employing people with a learning disability and ensure fair treatment in the workplace.
