The Ming family operated from Myanmar’s Kokang Self-Administered Zone in Shan State, a region that has become notorious for hosting industrial scale cyber fraud operations. His girlfriend’s social media appeal went viral, drawing attention from Chinese celebrities and prompting swift action from Thai and Chinese authorities. In November, Chinese authorities sentenced five additional people to death for involvement in scam operations in Myanmar’s Kokang region, signaling continued zero tolerance enforcement.
