Spread the wordA motorcyclist, Nwanchor Uwaezuruike, was shot dead on Tuesday night by a police officer during a patrol operation in Abakaliki, Ebonyi state capital. The incident occurred at about 10:30pm along the Enugu–Abakaliki expressway, near Hariz filling station, involving operatives attached to the Central Police Station (CPS). During the pursuit, one of the officers allegedly fired a shot that struck the rider. The Ebonyi state Police command has confirmed the incident and announced the detention of the officer involved. “The Ebonyi State Command has commenced a comprehensive investigation into a fatal shooting incident that occurred on 27 January 2026 at about 10:30pm around Hariz Filling Station,” the statement said.
