Lafayette College released the first iteration of a campus lighting plan on Monday after pledging late last year to address student concerns about nighttime safety. But the plan contained few concrete commitments beyond lighting the Quad, and caught flak from faculty for using artificial intelligence. The plan was a response to a petition that called on college President Nicole Hurd to address what petitioners described as a lack of lighting on campus with a “detailed plan of action” and timeline of improvements. The Quad lighting has been in the works at least since October, before the petition was created. College administration has been reluctant to identify the authors of the plan beyond the divisions involved in its creation.
