To commemorate the 100th anniversary of Black History Month, Evanston institutions are hosting a wide variety of free events to highlight the history and impact of Black Americans on the local community and country. The exhibition celebrates the centennial of Black History Month and will showcase art that “highlights and recognizes the lived experience and spirit of Black history and culture through the years.” The exposition will be located on the third floor of the main library. Feb. 14: Black History Month Reading with Leslé HonoréEPL is also hosting a reading with Chicago-based “Blaxican” poet and author Leslé Honoré. The event will begin at 7 p.m.Feb. 27: Black History Month Family Game NightThe Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center is holding a game night centered around Black History Month from 6-9 p.m. Games range from trivia to board games, with the goal of educating players on the history of Black Americans and connecting community members. Feb. 28: “The Black Affair” Black History Month Vendor ShowcaseOn the final day of Black History Month, Evanston Township High School’s Black History Month committee will organize an event highlighting local Black-owned businesses.
