‘Tempted by the lure of the Singapore dollar.’ Baby-trafficking ring exploits Indonesia’s most vulnerable
['Anna Maria Romero']
The Independent Singapore News
South China Morning Post reported that mafia networks in Indonesia are increasingly targeting babies for trafficking, often sold due to economic pressures.
In July, the Indonesian police went on to arrest 12 people said to be involved in a baby trafficking syndicate.
Six babies were rescued, five of whom were reportedly set to be sold in Singapore.
A highly organised group that has sold at least 24 infants since 2023 is behind the ring.
