(Jaime Valdez)Multiple businesses and restaurants across Portland are expected to close Friday, Jan. 30, in solidarity with a “National Shutdown” strike responding to growing concerns over federal immigration enforcement nationwide. The shutdown is being promoted through the National Shutdown campaign, which is calling for people across the U.S. to participate in a day of “no work, no school, no shopping” to protest U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s actions and policies. Many Portland business have taken to social media to inform patrons their doors will be closed on Friday in solidarity. Stay safe, be smart & never give up.”Other Portland businesses have posted regarding the national strike letting people know that they greatly support the efforts, but for various reasons cannot participate themselves.
