Fifty volunteers scoured Vallejo Thursday morning, as part of a nationwide initiative to tally those experiencing homelessness. The city-led census, known as the Point In Time (PIT) count, led locals on a search for community connections with one of the city’s more vulnerable populations — the unhoused. “[The PIT count] is a big step in hopefully bringing in additional funding from the federal government to do so.”Volunteers were equipped with resource-filled “care packages” and print-outs detailing maps of the city’s known unhoused locations in either encampments, streets or properties. Earlier in December, during a city roundtable, a few residents advocated for a need to tweak the PIT count process. Vallejo Together and Saints Constantine & Helen prepared over 200 breakfast burritos for unhoused individuals included in the count.
