SPRINGFIELD — The Roger L. Putnam Vocational Technical Academy Gymnasium will be renamed in honor of state Rep. Bud L. Williams, D-Springfield. Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Superintendent Sonia Dinnall, and members of the Springfield School Committee will gather Friday at 6 for the event. A lifelong resident of Springfield, Williams is a proud graduate of Roger L. Putnam Vocational Technical High School — formerly Trade — where he excelled academically and athletically, demonstrating leadership and sportsmanship on and off the Putnam basketball court. Williams was the first 1,000-point scorer in Putnam history; named to the All-City Basketball Team twice; and named to the All-Western Mass Basketball Team.
