The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston announced layoffs for the second time in six years this week in an effort to prevent a projected $13 million budget deficit.
It is also cutting 23 open positions, amounting to a total workforce decrease of approximately 10%, The Boston Globe reported.
MFA Boston called the decision "painful but necessary," as it was projected to reach a budget deficit of $13 million if no action was taken.
The layoffs come at a time when MFA Boston employees’ workloads are already high, Farrell told the Globe.
In the years since the last round of layoffs, MFA Boston’s endowment has increased to $830 million, the Globe reported.
