The mayor of Gary is making a stronger push to bring the Chicago Bears over the border as Indiana lawmakers mull funding proposals for a new stadium. Gary Mayor Eddie Melton said he's traveling to Indianapolis on Monday to meet with lawmakers as they consider a bill that would lay the framework for financing and building a new stadium. The bill would create a new state-run stadium authority that would finance and build a new stadium in northwest Indiana. The Indiana Senate passed it Wednesday, and a House committee could hear the bill as soon as next week. Mike Braun already signaled his support for the bill, saying in a statement, "Indiana is open for business and the Chicago Bears have taken notice."
