The Chicago area could get several doses of lake-effect snow Friday, impacting both the morning and evening commutes in different locations. As Friday morning dawns, the first round of lake-effect snow could spin onto shore in northeastern Illinois, with a winter weather advisory issued for Lake, DuPage and Cook counties through Friday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. In the afternoon, a winter storm watch will take effect in central and southern portions of Cook County, with heavier snowfall rates potentially occurring as more bands of snow arrive onshore. Winds howling out of the north will push intense lake-effect snow bands into northwest Indiana, and some of those bands could push down along the Illinois-Indiana border, with the highest accumulations occurring nearer the lake. Visibility could also be an issue because of blowing snow, according to the NBC 5 Storm Team.
