Now, the director is going back to the source with Nouvelle Vague, a fly-on-the-wall dramatisation of how Jean-Luc Goddard made his seminal 1960 New Wave classic, A Bout De Souffle (Breathless). The Texas-raised writer/director brings a cinephile passion and eye for detail to a film which takes audiences inside film critic turned film-maker Goddard’s landmark crime/romance flick. Filmed largely in French, in black and white and using Academy ratio for proper period vibes while re-visiting the real Parisian locations used by Goddard, Nouvelle Vague finds Linklater convincingly turning back time by digitally erasing 67 years of commercialisation and re-development.
