It took until the final bout, but once again, the road to an NJIC wrestling title goes through southern Bergen County. Heights county medalist Eoin Maloney pinned Nicholas Giella in the final bout at 175 to close things out for the Aviators as they led 33-27 heading into that bout. If Maloney got pinned, Emerson would’ve won on criteria — bouts won, with eight, with Maloney insisting instead that criteria wouldn’t be necessary. Hasbrouck Heights got timely bonus points when it mattered, especially as Emerson narrowed the Heights lead late. Emerson, meanwhile, dropped to 11-4 as their two losses are to Heights, Cedar Grove and Westwood, the latter of whom also lost to Heights.
