DETROIT -- Detroit Red Wings forward Patrick Kane made history Thursday during the second period against the Washington Capitals at Little Caesars Arena. Kane assisted on Ben Chiarot’s goal at 9:52 of the second period and became the NHL’s all-time leading scorer among U.S.-born players with 1,375 points. The Red Wings showed a video of Modano congratulating Kane. It briefly appeared as if Kane set the record at 2:25 of the first period on an apparent power-play goal by Alex DeBrincat. But a video review determined the play was offside, negating the goal.
