Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Administrator Derek Barrs provided a detailed overview of various aspects of trucking, as it relates to things like safety and regulations, among other topics, at this week’s SMC3 Jump Start conference in Atlanta. “We [FMCSA] are valuable in making sure that we move goods and services and people across this country safely,” said Barrs. But agencies are issuing driver's licenses for eight, nine years or more for them to be in the country. We need to ensure that you're qualified to be behind the wheel of that vehicle. And 450 of those 1,500 locations decided to close down operations, according to Barrs, with another 100 that FMCSA is doing another set of investigations on.
