As the icy sidewalks from last weekend’s wintry mix begin to melt, The Triangle is bracing for more winter weather with possible heavy snow fall and wind chills below zero. The weather prompted the National Weather Service to issue a winter storm and extreme cold watch for central North Carolina. On Thursday evening, Mary Pat McMahon, vice president and vice provost of student affairs, sent an email to students with safety reminders for the winter weather. Duke has not yet activated its Severe Weather & Emergency Conditions Policy as it did last weekend, and no classes have been canceled at this time. This round of winter weather comes just one week after a significant winter storm swept the Southeast of the United States on Jan. 23; in-person classes were canceled at Duke through Tuesday morning and a cover of ice remains across campus.
