A York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust spokesperson said it “sincerely apologise to all patients affected by these incidents” and is “committed to providing high-quality, safe and effective care”. NHS England figures revealed that the trust paid out £1,682,195 in compensation for radiology error claims between 2020 and 2025. In the five years, 49 claims relating to radiology errors were brought against the trust. The figures have been obtained by Freedom of Information requests by negligence solicitors firm Medical Negligence Assist to NHS Resolution, the health service’s insurance arm. Medical Negligence Assist said it found that the largest single-year pay-out from the York trust happened in 2024/25 and accounted for a “substantial proportion of the overall figure”.
