THE government has been urged to finally “do the right thing” and compensate the women who lost out when changes were made to the state pension age. Stratford MP Manuela Perteghella (Lib Dem) joined more than 100 MPs to demand that action be taken to correct the injustice to the women born in the 1950s – known as the Waspi women. Ms Perteghella said: “Women born in the 1950s have suffered a clear injustice through no fault of their own, yet the government continues to ignore the Ombudsman’s recommendations. “After years of successive economic failure regarding Waspi pensions, it is disgraceful to ask pensioners to pay the price. “Liberal Democrats have long pushed for fair compensation, and I am urging the government to finally do the right thing for Waspi women in Stratford-on-Avon and across the country.”
