Gregory Wash, 44, confronted the victim in Witham last July when he punched him several times and broke his glasses.
The victim was left with bruises to his chest, head, and chin, and a cut to his head after the assault, which was witnessed by several neighbours.
Wash had previously been a scaffolder but had to stop work because of an injury he suffered in a car accident.
Rohini Majumdar, prosecuting, told the court in a previous hearing Wash had approached the man two days after the complainant allegedly pushed the defendant’s son off his scooter.
Raphael Piggott, mitigating, said there was a suggestion Wash had attacked the victim in retaliation for the incident two days earlier.
