The council has donated 94 laptops to social enterprise Recycle-IT, which will refurbish the devices and distribute them to those without access to technology across the borough. "We will also be able to provide the refurbished laptops to residents at a fraction of the price of brand-new equipment, helping to close Bolton’s digital divide." Once refurbished, half of the laptops will be returned to Bolton Council’s Digital, Employment and Skills team to support digitally excluded residents. Cllr Nick Peel, leader of Bolton Council and digital lead for Greater Manchester, praised the scheme and urged others to donate unused technology.
