Barnhart, R-Pleasants, was sworn in as the newest member of the 34-member West Virginia Senate on Wednesday afternoon in a ceremony officiated by Senate President Randy Smith and Justice Charles Trump with the state Supreme Court of Appeals. Barnhart was joined by his wife Brooke, his parents Mark and Lori Barnhart, and other family members and lawmakers. Boley, 90, was first appointed to the state Senate on May 14, 1985, succeeding former Sen. Sam White. She was the longest serving state senator in West Virginia history with nearly 41 years of service. “No one can replace Senator Boley,” Barnhart said Wednesday morning prior to the start of his last House floor session.
