St John Ambulance Cymru hosted David Verity, hospitaller of the Order of St John and consultant ophthalmologist at Moorfields Eye Hospital, at its national headquarters in Cardiff.
During his visit, Mr Verity spoke about the work of the St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital Group, which provides free eye care in the West Bank, Gaza and Jerusalem.
Paul Griffiths OBE, St John prior for Wales and chair of the board of trustees at St John Ambulance Cymru, said: "It was a pleasure to welcome Mr Verity to Cardiff and hear about the positive impact the eye hospital group is making in extremely difficult circumstances.
The eye hospital group has been serving patients in the region for more than 140 years, treating people regardless of ethnicity, religion or ability to pay.
During the event, St John Ambulance Cymru’s Eye Hospital Panel presented Mr Verity with a cheque for £30,000 to support the hospital’s work.
