The decision made by Eastleigh Borough Council will introduce a flat £2 evening parking charge at Wells Place and Swan Centre off-street car parks. One Swan Centre worker told the council the charges would discourage people from spending an evening dining out, going to the cinema or bowling “without paying for parking”. It said: “The proposed introduction of evening parking charges will reduce visitor numbers and further impact the already challenging market. These proposals clearly go against that message.”Under the new arrangements, existing daytime parking charges at both sites will also increase. The council also approved that the introduction of Sunday charges inBishopstoke Road Playing Field Off Street Car Park will not be implemented.
