It aims to give children a "nurturing start" that builds confidence, curiosity and school readiness alongside key early learning foundations. Judith Dixon, head of early years at Westholme School in Blackburn, said: "Children enjoy specialist, teacher-led learning from the very start of their journey. The Pre-Prep year will combine purposeful play with teacher-led learning, including early phonics and core skills development, alongside physical development. Bethany Hannah, a parent whose children Ruby and Penelope attend Westholme, said: "The Pre-Prep year is very much welcomed by parents like me. "If you know that your child is heading for Westholme School, it makes sense - they will just start a year earlier."
