North East council to appoint new chief executive amid town's 'transformation'

A full meeting of Hartlepool Council on Thursday, February 5, will consider the recommendation to approve Matt Wilton, currently deputy chief executive at Newcastle City Council, for the role following a national recruitment process.
Councillor Pamela Hargreaves, leader of Hartlepool Borough Council, said: "I am delighted to recommend to Full Council the appointment of Matt Wilton as our new Chief Executive.
In a statement, Mr Wilton said: "I am truly honoured to be recommended as the next Chief Executive of Hartlepool Borough Council.
Mr Wilton said he is looking forward to the opportunity in Hartlepool, pending council approval.
Should the appointment be ratified next week, Mr Wilton is expected to take up the post in the coming months.
