A billionaire and his wife have made the largest-ever donation to a veterinarian school, after it helped treat their beloved pet dog. The couple had been inspired to make the massive donation after their dog, Angel, received care at UC Davis when he was diagnosed with lymphoma in 2018. That experience led the Weills to support clinical trials at the veterinarian school, and later they created the Joan Weill Translational Research Endowment. In recognition of the donation, school officials said they will renaming the veterinary school to the University of California Davis Joan and Sanford I Weill School of Veterinary Medicine - or the UC Davis Weill School of Veterinary Medicine for short. In total, university officials said, the gift announced on Wednesday brings the Weill's total contributions to the University of California system to $500 million.
