The Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust can now build the four bathrooms at its inpatient mental health unit at Hellesdon Hospital. In each ensuite, the trust will add an anti-vandal toilet, hand wash basin and a ceiling-mounted shower outlet. Planners for Broadland District Council, who approved the application, said: "The principle of development is considered acceptable as it is an extension to an existing facility." In August last year, the Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust revealed it was drawing up a planning bid to turn parts of Hellesdon Hospital into housing. The mental health trust is looking to sell the original Victorian parts of its headquarters to a developer after deeming them surplus to requirements.
