Legal limits on immigration operationsWhite House Border Czar Tom Homan is considering a “drawdown” of immigration operations in Minnesota, if the federal government can get “agreements in place” with county jails. “What we did agree upon was not to release public safety risks back to the community when they could be lawfully transferred to ICE,” Homan said. There are currently eight agencies that have 287g agreements with ICE: Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office, Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office, Isle Police Department, Itasca County Sheriff’s Office, Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office, Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office, and the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Leko said it’s important that Homan understands the legal constraints under which agencies operate in Minnesota.
