The businesses planning to remain shut include restaurants, bars, clothing shops, art stores, gyms and other outlets throughout Eugene and Springfield. Licavoli said the closure would be a strain on the business, but ultimately support from employees overwhelmed his hesitancy. Sovak said she had also heard from dozens of other restaurants in Eugene shutting down and was encouraging her neighbors to do the same. ASUO, the University of Oregon’s student government body, also endorsed the shutdown and announced its offices would remain mostly closed.
