Universities grabbed and swallowed TVET colleges by turning them into campuses, in order to avoid the work of building university colleges from scratch. Departments contorted their programs to sound more applicable to donor-funded NGOs and the FIRE sector (finance, insurance and real estate). For the longest time, I knew that it was hatred of the humanities that made students disrespect learning to write. The ideology which the students hear from the government and the media is that universities do not teach practical knowledge. Even thinking is practical work.
