Village Leaders Address Elevated Nitrate Levels In Drinking WaterThe Village of Dix continues to work through elevated nitrate levels in its drinking water supply, with village officials emphasizing transparency, ongoing testing and protective measures for residents. Village officials noted that nitrate levels have been gradually increasing in all three village wells over the past several years. As a precaution, the Village of Dix is providing bottled drinking water to residents for drinking purposes. According to the drinking water notice, adults and children older than 6 months can safely drink the tap water, as nitrate at this level primarily poses a health concern for infants. “Boiling, freezing, or letting water stand does not reduce nitrate levels,” Ramsey said.
