Jaswant Murilal, 27, of First Street, Martyr’s Ville, Mon Repos, was charged on Wednesday with dangerous driving and fined $50,000. A release from the police said that the charge came after a video circulated on social media showing Murilal driving at a fast rate along the Ogle/Eccles Highway. The footage showed the vehicle subsequently losing control, crossing the median and entering the lane of oncoming traffic, narrowly avoiding collisions with other motor vehicles. On Wednesday, Murilal appeared at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Dylon Bess, where the charge was read to him. He pleaded guilty and was fined $50,000 or 12 months’ imprisonment.
