The Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association (GMSA) has hailed the 2026 National Budget as a landmark achievement for the private sector, stating that the government has adopted approximately 80 per cent of the measures proposed by the association to bolster local industry.
In a move described as a “tremendous blessing” by GMSA President Rafeek Khan, the government has removed Value Added Tax (VAT) from locally manufactured jewellery and essential wooden home components.
“We no longer have to charge taxes on your doors, mouldings, kitchen cabinets, or beds,” Khan stated.
“These are basic essentials.
This allows our local manufacturers to sell at prices that can finally compete with imports.”
