House Republicans introduced the “Make Elections Great Again Act,” led by Rep. Bryan Steil (R-Wis.), as a broad election reform bill.
The bill requires voters to present photo ID and verify citizenship to register to vote.
The big picture: It imposes restrictions on how states run elections, addressing issues that became prominent in the 2020 election.
Mail-in ballots must be received by Election Day to be counted, except for military members overseas.
States would be required to use auditable paper ballots for federal elections.
