New Delhi, January 30, 2026Non-Resident Indian (NRI) deposits in Indian banks surged to a record high of USD 16.16 billion during the financial year 2024–25, according to the latest data from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
This marks the largest inflow of NRI funds in over a decade, reflecting increased confidence among the Indian diaspora in domestic banking opportunities.
Non-Resident External (NRE) accounts recorded inflows of USD 4.7 billion, while Non-Resident Ordinary (NRO) accounts contributed USD 4.4 billion.
“The rise in NRI deposits demonstrates a strong preference for safe, rupee- and foreign currency-denominated banking products, especially as global interest rates fluctuate,” said a senior banking analyst.
Context and AnalysisThe increase in NRI deposits comes amid stable regulatory policies and relatively higher domestic interest rates compared to many global economies.
