The University of Kent has confirmed its proposed scheme for an accommodation block for 1,000 students on its Canterbury campus is no longer going ahead. ‌The institution claims it is in response to "changing needs and wants" for student accommodation after holding an "extensive consultation". ‌In 2020, the University of Kent announced its intentions to build a complex comprising student accommodation, a squash centre and a sports pavilion off Giles Lane on its Canterbury campus. This is mainly a reflection of the changing needs and wants from our students in terms of accommodation on our Canterbury campus. The development row comes against the backdrop of an announcement in September by the University of Kent that it would be merging with the University of Greenwich, to create a combined "super university".
