Orange County Schools will hold its fifth and final available day of remote learning of the academic year on Friday, citing concerns for travel along bus routes and key roads drivers would use to get to school. Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools and Chatham County Schools, meanwhile, will use a two-hour delay to alleviate those travel challenges. Orange County Schools shared an alert at 4:33 p.m., confirming it would complete a full week of remote learning in the aftermath of Winter Storm Fern, which brought wintry mix over the weekend and saw freezing temperatures keep icy areas around. Like has been the case this week, Orange County Schools students can earn their remote learning attendance on Friday by completing their assigned work, which they can do asynchronously from instruction. Chatham County Schools had remote learning on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week — but chose to cancel instruction entirely for Thursday.
