My wife is quite opinionated, and when it comes to parenting I would say she’s always been more hands-on. My son is the youngest and her “baby”, and she has been increasingly meddling in his business, interfering with his personal life. It might be worth asking yourself some questions, starting with is your family the way it was because it was the way your wife programmed the family to be? Maybe it was a dream for her to have a tight-knit family because she never had that, so she created it? It could be that your wife needs to direct her energies elsewhere, away from your family.
