Kentucky lawmakers are making a second attempt to make water fluoridation optional in the state, Spectrum News 1 reported Jan. 29. State legislators considered a bill to reverse water fluoridation requirements last year, with the bill passing the House but failing in the Senate. Water fluoridation is currently mandatory for communities in the state with more than 3,000 residents, which a majority of communities in the state. HB 103, introduced Jan. 7, is cosponsored by roughly a third of the State House. Mary Ann Burch, a member of the Kentucky Dental Hygienists’ Association, and Steve Robertson, DMD, the executive director of the Kentucky Dental Association, spoke in opposition of the bill.
