Over the next two editions of the Venice Biennale, Luxembourg’s pavilion will tackle two uncomfortable but interconnected questions: what society pushes out of sight, and what it consumes without restraint. The installation will be presented in the Sale d’Armi at the Arsenale from 9 May to 22 November 2026. Combining film, sculpture, sound and spatial installation, the project draws on archives from art history, popular culture and scientific imagery to construct what Bouvy describes as a collective memory of what society seeks to repress. Architecture Biennale 2027: confronting spatial overconsumptionIf ‘La Merde’ confronts what is expelled - physically, morally and symbolically - Luxembourg’s next pavilion will ask what happens when excess becomes normalised. According to census data from 2011 - the most recent published figure - Luxembourg had an average of 64 square metres of living space per inhabitant, a number significantly higher than in neighbouring countries.
