Luxembourg consumer confidence flat in January

Consumer confidence in Luxembourg remained unchanged in January, according to data released on Thursday by the Luxembourg central bank (BCL), as contrasting trends cancelled each other out.
The BCL noted that households “significantly revised upwards their expectations regarding the general economic situation in Luxembourg”, pointing to improved sentiment about the broader economy over the next 12 months.
However, this was offset by increased caution at household level, as consumers “sensibly lowered” their expectations for their own future financial situation, the bank said.

The consumer confidence index is calculated through a survey as the arithmetic average of four components covering expectations for the national economy, households’ past and future financial situation, and spending intentions.
