A single-vehicle crash has left a car on its roof on Sandown Road (A3055) this afternoon (Thursday), causing heavy delays between Sandown and Shanklin. The car, a Suzuki Ignis, reportedly hit a wall and railing before coming to rest upside down. Fire crews from Sandown, Shanklin, Newport and Ryde were initially sent to the incident, but most units were stood down shortly after arriving. The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service also dispatched an Operational Commander and a Critical Care Paramedic to support the response. Sandown Road remains closed at the junction with Newport Road while emergency services deal with the scene.
